Overview of SEPTEMBER 2010 night skies
Between the 1st and 14th the moon will be out of the way allowing you to observe a Starry sky. During that time we show you many Constellations, Star Clusters, Nebulae, Galaxies, coloured and double stars that would be otherwise hard to see due to moonlight. On the other hand, if you want to see the Moon up close in the telescope, then aim for the 15th to the 20th. Full Moon is on the 22rd and dark skies won't return until the end of the month.
Our working dates are at left in Main Menu.
PLANETS: Venus the 'Evening Star' can be seen in the west up to about 9pm. In a good quality telescope you can see the various Moon-like phases - Crescent, Half, Gibbous and Full of the planet. This is because Venus is between us and the Sun.
Jupiter: Rising around 8pm in the east. The planet will reach its highest point in the night sky on October 8.
Constellations at 8pm
