We take primary and secondary schools.

Best times to bring Year 2 - 6 children is on the Moon Nights. See dates at left on Menu.

Best times for Year 7-12 children is on the Starry Nights. See dates at leftin Menu.

Worst times to do any stargazing is around a Full Moon.

We can seat 40on the Observation Deck, 70 in the Star Theatre. Night sky session last for  60-90 minutes per class.

 

What do you get to see at our Night shows?
  • We show you the Moon, Planets and Stars up close in big powerful telescopes and answer questions with simple clarity.
  • Whatever the teacher/Scout/Cub Leaders want the kids to learn more about we have a program to suit all ages!
  • We point out constellations, stars, planets and how to find south using the stars using a registered green laser pointer.
  • If a school has more than one class we do a two x 1 hour sessions with the younger ones on first. The other class get to see a video in the Star Theatre.
  • The group can camp out near the Observatory or sleep over in the hall nearby and have brekky supplied by the shop next door.
  • On site there are coin opertaed hot showers at $2 for 4 minutes.
  • We also have a kitchen with outdoor BBQ for hire at $27.50 to hire the kitchen and $49.50 for the hall (sleepover)

Night sky session costs:

  • Student:and adult supv.....$12.50;  
  • Teacher/Scout/Cub Leader and bus drivers are free of charge.

Combined Day and Night session:

  • Student and adult supv......  $20;
  • Teacher/Scout/Cub Leader/Bus/Coach driver/Tour Guide free of charge.

Camp out under the stars (no camping fees)

  • School class visit can pitch their tents close to the Observatory. Click HERE to get Council permission form.
  • Sleepovers in hall nearby.. $49.50.
  • On-site kitchen for hire for $27.50.
  • Hot showers - coin operated $2 for 4 minutes.
  • Local cafe next to hall can do the kid's breakfast and or dinner. Call them on 4164  6166.
Emergency Procedures
  • In case of an emergency all exits go directly onto the sports field.
  • Emergency Exit off main landing next to Obs. Deck, leads directly into the car park.
Safety First
  • No running or skylarking. Those caught will not be allowed into the show. 
  • We have an emergency exit off the main deck at rear of observatory to the car park.
  • First Aid Kit and CO2 fire extinguishers throughout the complex.
  • All main entrances and exits have ramps, allowing for wheelchair and those with walker frames to come and go with ease.
  • All those on the Obs. Deck for a night sky viewing session MUST be seated before, during and after the roof opening.
