Best times to bring Year 1-6 children is listed under Moon and Planets tab on left in Menu.

Best times for Year 7-12 children is listed on Stars and Planets tab on left in Menu.

Worst times to do any stargazing is around a Full Moon.

We can seat 35 on the Observation Deck, 68 in the Star Theatre and 15 in the Display Centre.
Night sky session last for approx. 60 minutes per class.

 

What do you get to see at our Night shows?
  • We show you the Moon, Planets and Stars up close in big powerful telescopes!
  • Whatever the teacher want the kids to learn more about as we have a program to suit all ages!
  • Registered green laser night sky guide before we start the night show.
  • If a school has more than one class we can do a two x 1 hour sessions with the younger ones on first. The others waiting their turn, get to see a video in the Star Theatre.
  • The group can camp out near the Observatory or sleep over in the hall nearby and have brekky supplied by the shop next door.
  • Hot showers: Council cost is $1 per child and $2 adult  and kitchen hire is $20 (all council charges).

Night sky session costs:

  • Student:and adult supv.....$12.50;  
  • Teachers are free of charge.

Combined Day and Night session:

  • Student and adult supv......  $20;
  • Teachers are free of charge.

Camp out under the stars!

  • School class visit can pitch their tents close to the Observatory.
  • Sleepovers in hall nearby.
  • On-site kitchen for hire for $20.
  • Showers and toilets on site.
Emergency Procedures
  • In case of an emergency all exits go directly onto the sports field.
  • Emergency Exit off main landing next to Obs. Deck, leads directly into the car park.
Safety First
  • No running or skylarking. Those caught will not be allowed into the show. 
  • We have an emergency exit off the main deck at rear of observatory to the car park.
  • First Aid Kit and CO2 fire extinguishers throughout the complex.
  • All main entrances and exits have ramps, allowing for wheelchair and those with walker frames to come and go with ease.
  • All those on the Obs. Deck for a night sky viewing session MUST be seated before, during and after the roof opening.
