• Our next Astronomy Course begins on Saturday, August 30,  2008 starting at 9am in the Star Theatre for Theory and concludes at 5pm. We then adjoin to the local pub for tea and at 7pm we recommence back at the Observatory for a 4 hour session out in the open air under the stars doing practical astronomy using telescopes, star maps etc, and putting a lot of our theory to good use under the stars.If you have a telescope bring it along as you can get to use it under expert assistance.
• A sample of subjects covered are: How to enjoy your chosen hobby, Learning your way up there, getting to know your telescope and how to use it, Optics, Solar System, Universe. We even show you how to collimate a telescope and what eyepieces are best to use to what..Bugger, just too much to mention! 
• We will also cover how find one's way around up there using star maps, planispheres, Constellation recognition, using telescopes and Astro Photography. There is no written exam as such but we do expect you to remember a few things!
• You will need to bring a notebook, pens, some smoko and some lunch. If you have a telescope bring that too, as well as a camera for astro-photography excersies..
• Full course includes a comprehensive set of notes and a good quality Planisphere.
• If you have a telescope and or camera bring that too!!!  Bring anything you have that you need to learn more about!
• Your instructor is astronomer James Barclay, who taught and lectured Astronomy in Brisbane TAFE colleges and Universities for 20 years.
• Cost for this 12 hour course including 4 hours practical is $180 paid up front before the cut-off date of August 25th.
