- The observatory was established on August 16, 2004 for the sole purpose of educating the public, schools and community groups of the Moon, Planets and Stars, through the use of powerful telescopes.
- This facility is the largest, self funded, astro-tourism business in Queensland owned and operated by full time astronomer and photographer James Barclay, with over 50 years experience.
- Maidenwell does not have any Light Pollution thanks to Ergon Energy ripping out the old street lights and replacing them with new ones (at their own expense) that do not shine upwards into the night sky.
- The observatory operates three 35cm F10 Meade Schmidt Cassegrain telescopes and special Solar telescope. The observation deck can seat 40 persons and the Star Theatre seats 77.
- We also have an ALL sky camera that allows you to see how the skies look over the Obs. every 8 minutes or so.
- James founded three amateur astronomical clubs in SE Qld. March 1979 - Sun Coast Astronomical Society ( now defunt).
July 1986 - Brisbane Astronomical Society and in August 1989 - South East Qld Astronomical Society.
- The observatory is now on Facebook Click -----> HERE
